Hey Frank-
Nice unit, and a thorough refubish job! Glad you replaced the control panel escutcheon, I never liked the '70s look of those black ones. Was the PML-1 single-board preamp used in the early machines?
I noted with interest the multi-turn pot used on the pitch control. We have seen other examples of this mod. I am guessing it was added before the Sound Sales travesty, in an attempt to even-up the pitch instabilities of the original CMC-10 (which, of course, would NEVER be a solution).
Do you ceremoniously burn old CMC-10's on a pyre en masse?
Wishing you well, and best of luck on the auction of this unit!

Hi Bruce!

I have no idea when the multi turn pot was added. The PML-1 was part of the
Sound Sales "upgrade. Prior to that it had the WME 289 & WME 290 pre amp
and line amp cards in it. When I got it, it had a SMS-2 but that card looked
like it has been scorched and I wasn't happy with it so I replaced it with
the SMS-5 which is a direct swap. As for CMC-10 cards, I just toss them.

Thank God for spare parts, ehh?

I hope it does well on eBay. It's a really nice sounding machine.

Ouch! A classic case of "Have you got it? Yeah, have you got it? No, I got it! Good, I don't got it! -*CRASH!!*- " Leaves us with a pigeon-toed 'Tron.
It has an interesting output module, too.

Was gonna say that one look like it got dropped, or sat on by something
really heavy. While we're at it, the power supply looks a bit suspect also.

Having been around one of these that was dropped and looked in
surprisingly similar shape, it's my guess that the whole inner frame
might well be out of square, and that is a MAJOR problem.

I'd stay away from this puppy at $3000!

The one I bought this weekend looks like it might have taken a face plant at some point (the front corners in front of the keyboard area are a little flattened) but I'm not complaining. It seems to play fine and everything works. And it didn't cost me $3000.

I probably got took anyway. But again I'm not complaining. I've finally got a tron and I'm having a blast with it. Looks complete with the exception of the missing spill box lid. It is a CMC-10, but so far so good. Sounds like a mellotron, warble and all.

Warbling doesn't make it sound like a Mellotron... It makes it sound like a
sick Mellotron. Mellotrons are supposed to maintain pitch and consistently
reproduce the sound on the tapes.

You can adjust the pressure pads and rollers to eliminate the "wobblies"
The procedure is on this board.

I remember on the old list (wonder how they're doing by the way) that
someone was actually investigating what it would take to get a batch
(I'm guessing a thousand at least) of the lens caps made up. I guess
that never went anywhere. I know that I'd be willing to pay up to $20
or so for one, to complete my machine. Higher than that and I'd
probably have to explore methods of making one by hand.

i think the one explains the other [there were none to use so they passed on the use of the classic 'red cap' power switch].

i do recall the possibility of somebody making some coming up, but it was probably too costly for a small batch [like small batch bourbon costs much more than that made in huge quantities].

Hi all-
I took another look at the pix of the power supply. Am I mistaken, or are there 2 power cords firmwired into the AC hole? I hope they are wired right, and just one of them is male. Otherwise, fireworks may ensue

The mains runs into the power supply. Then, he wired a cord that runs back
out and hangs inside the cabinet that he can plug what ever sat on top of
