for sale: Mellotron 400B

for sale: Mellotron 400B

2009-05-09 by nicolestonehouse

Hey y'all

As part of an estate sale, we're selling a Mellotron 400B, s/n 502. It is currently not working; we tried turning it on a few months back but saw a little smoke and smelled a burning odor behind the switch and quickly turned it off.

My Dad was the original owner and took it on gigs back in the day; it is in great cosmetic shape as he never let anyone put drinks on it or breathe on it! Unfortunately he didn't power it on over the years so it needs a tune up. It has been in our houses throughout my lifetime and was never stored in a non-climate controlled area.

We can send pics to anyone who is seriously interested. The tron is located outside of Houston. Shipping will need to be arranged by the buyer (I hear Piano Carriage is good). If you are interested, please send your offer quickly as we already have one offer on the table!

Thanks
Nicole

Is there actually a difference that was meant to be a difference between them.

I remember John modified my 400SM a bit because it wasn't put together
they way Streetly intended., I assume the sm stood for the distributor
in that case but revs usually refer to hardware upgrades.

The replacement for the CMC-10 is a normal part of a full upgrade, and the "SM" stands for "servo motor".
It's a lot more useful than the old electronics.
As explained to me the "S" stands for stereo.

Hi all-
My #1221 has " M 400 " stamped on the label, but no other letters. Judging from the abandoned screw holes, it looks like it had a CMC10 at day one, but now has a SMS-3.
