KC Red

Re: KC Red

2010-08-19 by ClayE

Did a big RED bug crawl up your ass Tony? Nobody said that there wasn't a KC album called Red. I think that Nick was saying that they didn't perform the title track live back in 74. At least it was never captured on a live recording. If you say you saw them and heard them play the title track RED, that's good enough for me.

Nope no Red bug up my ass, just clearing things up.
I saw them here in Fla after I moved here in 75.
Knew I was correct, that's good enough for me.
Thanks Clay,
Tony
PS there are bugs here big enough to rape a Turkey, but not in my house.

The song "Red" Performed Live in the 70's

2010-08-19 by Robert

Unfortunately, I only went to 1 KC concert; it was @ The Sunrise Musical Theater in Fort Lauderdale, Fl (11-7-95). I missed previous shows in South Florida in 1972, 1973, & 1974 even though I was a fan back then. They played @ The Hollywood Sportatorium on 4-20-74; foolishly I didn't go because the Sportatorium was not a great venue for going to see concerts, so I passed it up; so I don't know what was on their play list during that tour ?

Anyway, the question is "answered" on the Elephant Talk site (FAQ section - question 28); see the link below... I don't know whether every answer in the FAQ section of this site is absolutely true though ? Just passing this along...

But I do remember purchasing the import copy of the album "Red" around November 1974 @ The Magic Minstrel in South Miami; the other album I bought @ the time was "You" by Gong; both are great albums !

Robert
Was 'Red' ever played live in the 1970's?

No. After the July 1, 1974 gig at Central Park, New York, David Cross departed the group. On July 8, the remaining trio of Bruford, Wetton and Fripp began recording the 'Red' album.

Although Cross appeared as a guest on the 'Red' album, and Ian McDonald even supplied sax, the history of 1970's King Crimson ended when Fripp abruptly disbanded the group upon the album's completion. This means that the song 'Red' was first performed live by the 1980's version of KC, featuring Fripp, Bruford, Levin and Belew. (Note: both 'Providence' and 'Starless', from side two of the 'Red' LP, had been performed live by the 1970's KC).

Look everyone... Clay wants to be an entomologist. As for Tony, I think we all mistake his big type face and love of swearing for anger. I think he's just excited because he learned how to work Google. Yippee!

You forgot to mention King Crimson's most notable appearance in South Florida, the 1969 Festival in West Palm beach. They played two nights with the Mark I band. I was so fortunate to have attended that concert.

Palm Beach Music & Arts Festival - Nov 28 & 29, 1969

2010-08-19 by Robert

You are correct; I forgot to mention the festival in WPB... I didn't go to the festival. I was only 13 years old at the time & had not yet gotten into "prog" or some of the other groups who played at this festival. In fact, I had not heard the 1st KC album until about a year later. Just recently, I learned about the Rotary Connection !

That festival had an incredible line up (Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Chambers Brothers, Sly & The Family Stone, Jefferson Airplane, Byrds, Steppenwolf, Spirit, Pacific Gas & Electric, Sweetwater, Country Joe & The Fish, Johnny Winter, Rotary Connection, Grand Funk Railroad, Rugbys (never heard of them ?), King Crimson, Vanilla Fudge, Chicago Transit Authority...

If & when you have the time, please tell us / me about the festival.

Thanks,

Robert
