So that's what the Crimson has been up to

So that's what the Crimson has been up to

So I heard that Kanye has defiled 21st Century Schizoid Man, which lead to Youtube and that horror, which lead to other 21st Century Schizoid Stuff, which amongst other cool things lead to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8EOX9k6430
Fripp, M Giles, Maynard Keenan (of Tool apparently) and others give 21st Century Schizoid Man the WALL.OF.LOUD treatment. It's very well done! (And a totally unexpected sound coming from Michael Giles. Is it really the same man who sung "he runs a lit'le shop with a room at the top...?")

Leads to this:

Half of the "major contributing artists" are King Crimson: Fripp, Wetton, Belew. Apparently M Giles will show up from time to time. So King Crimson goes undercover and becomes a cover band... whatever next?

Enjoy!

PS. Has anyone seen the expert guitar part of 21st Century Schizoid Man on Guitar Hero 5? I watched that. It gets insane right around the screeching distorted alto sax solos. Holy Mary Mother of God...

I've tried to play along with it. Is it on the Rockband game? Even the bass part is unplayable at the end. My friends can't believe it's from 1969.

I haven't listened to it in a loooong time, but I remember April Wine's attempt long ago was rather good.

Interesting about that. The Winer's bass player at the time was Steve Lang who'd moved on from my band, Devotion, brought Schizoid Man with him -- one of our staples when we were still doing covers. Miles Goodwin thought Steve knew the entire lick in the middle. He only knew the bass part. Our sax player, Simon Stone went over to their rehearsal hall in Montreal and taught it to them. They did play it rather well, though, didn't they? Jerry Mercer, the drummer, was a huge fan of King Crimson.

Too bad they didn't want a keyboard player. I would have been happy to do the gig. Oh well...

My memory wasn't as good as I thought -- their cover was very good -- found this live version:
