A Sadder song

A Sadder song

Apologies is this turns up twice, just posted a long and boring post which seems to have disappeared into cyberspace. The link is to one of the few pieces I haven't already posted here. #1565 with old tapes, Mark II 3 violins.

The notches on the tapes over the capstan. What would cause that? I guess if the tapes were in continuous contact with the capstan they would wear through like that.

If the tapes were in contact why wouldn't they wear evenly? And why would some be notched and not others? My guess is that that it's due to a combination of concave rollers and the previous owner persistently holding the keys down for too long.

Oh and by the way congrats on Canada's win in the ice hockey, I wouldn't have thought there would be anybody sober there by now.

Mark:
The extraordinary thing about the olympic hockey results:
two bronze for Finland (M&W)
two silver for USA
two gold for Canada

We were on the verge of a nervous breakdown last night. Quite a storybook ending. Both teams from Finland accepted their bronze medals graciously. Unfortunately the USA teams did not.

That's because we didn't get bronze medals. If we had, we would have been
gracious in defeat. When we win silver, we can be petulant.

I shouldn't single out just the Americans. When Alex Bilodeau won the gold medal for the moguls ski, the camera showed the top three skiers with arms wrapped around each other; Bilodeau and Bryon Wilson (USA - Bronze) were smiling and waving, while Dale Begg-Smith (Australia - Silver)had the sourest expression ever, caught on national television.

Don't worry about it. If the game had gone the other way, you would have seen some full blown temper tantrums from our guys.

Yes, and our Prime Minister would have shut down Parliament for another 2 months so that we could all "recalibrate" our Canadian identities.

That's because Bilodeau and Wilson had just farted. If he'd lit a match, they all would have disappeared in a massive fireball.

Also, we are not happy with 2nd place for anything. Like our health care. Don't you know we are #1 in health care? (I mean #37, just above Cuba and behind Costa Rica). But we "claim" to be #1.

I love it when Rick gives us the inside Olympic perspective that no one
else has.

Reminds me of an olde Fugs song, "Nine Prong Dong", about a guy that grew up near a nuclear testing site.
