Hauntingly beautiful, Mike. I always loved your version and now with the lovely slide show, I find it even more moving.
Any time you can show pictures of dead people set to music it's always fun.

It's coming up next I think. You can hear it at

until then, of course.

Very nice, Mike. Are the Biro parts the ones that seem to have
instantaneous attack? What Biro sounds did you use? Nice job on that
Big Stone Room sound.

Spem In A is really a hard piece to pull off without the words so Mike has had a challenge and it proves yet again that you can get something wonderful out of 'trons but there has to be music with integrity to work with. Mike and I know this piece backwards and have discussed it's merits for many a long year. It is a masterpiece of 15th century composition, full of controlled yet at times, wild dissonances, sadly discarded when Baroque turned up. Listen for the wild woman towards the end, bladdered on mead and doing free form. Just great.

Fantastic piece Mike. It's a real pity that Messrs Banks, Wakeman and all the other doubters over the years who have written the tron off, couldn't hear this and wonder at the glorious majesty of the Tron.
Sorry, I appear to have had an accident!

The Biro sounds come in about 1:39 as choir #5 and has seven parts, the first of which sounds like this:

http://www.mikedickson.org.uk/private/Spem%20In%20Alium%20%28Birotron%20Section%29.mp3

Which is Birotron with (tuned down) lead soprano. The Biro parts are all digitised samples as I don't have a Birotron to hand (or maybe I left it someplace...checking pockets....nnnnnnnnnnoo.....can't seem to find it on me...) They sound great, though.

Part of the reason why Spem In Alium is not performed more is because you need to round up eight sopranos who are not only competent singers but who can lead the piece. That itself is a major undertaking.

Mike

I still say this is the greatest musical accomplishment in the history of our species. I simply cannot encompass the mind that put this together in such unerring detail.
