Bill Fransen

2010-01-04 by vk5aci

Hello. Is there anyone out there that can tell me of the where about of Bill Fransen or if he has passed on maybe a few details? I knew and was a friend of Bill's back in the '60's in London but lost contact with him when I moved to Australia in '66. I have thought about, and talked about him over the years and have only recently come across the "Groups" in Yahoo. I would greatly appreciate any info however trivial. I guess that as I am 75yrs now there is a great chance that Bill is no longer with us but I sure would like to know what happened to him. Kind Regards to all..........John

Hello John,
I saw your email asking about Bill. He died over 20 years ago. Mycolleague, John Bradley could tell you more as I never met him. John is the son of Les Bradley who ran the original Streetly Electronics in Birmingham. I met John and Les in 1989 and Bill had been dead several years then. Send John an email to BRADMATICS@aol.com and I'll tell him to expect correspondence from you. John knew him well.
Best wishes,
Martin

M4000 spotted in indy-pop?

2010-08-16 by trolldelux@aol.com

Greetinx, all:
Arcade Fire just came out with their album The Suburbs. The link below is to a YouTube recording of the song Half Light II:
Is that a nice new M4000 howling away? While I know most of newmellotrongroup will find the music unchallenging, I'm rather fond of this particular howl (assuming I've called it correctly) and nicer still that it's not faking strings someplace wayyyy in the background. I haven't hear a 'tron playing as a 'tron for a long very time in popular music.
-the Lurker.
PS: the tron bros probably know The Truth. Is it an M4000?

According to the Wiki “the recent purchase of a Mellotron M4000 for use by the band Arcade Fire who use it in the soundtrack for the 2009 movie The Box.”

However nothing about their use in the band other than that. Here is a live version (2010) of that song and no tron:

Arcade Fire played 2 new tunes on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show last week. No sign of M4000. Their new album is available on double 12 vinyl or digital download. The album was mastered to a 12 inch lacquer and then transferred back to digital.

I heard the song (Half Light II) on XM Radio and went looking for it on YouTube, where they left a record of a recent Madison Sq. Gardens concert. No sign of a mellotron in the video or audio.
