Frank (and all)-
Looked like a blast!
Let's see-
-Cooking with 'Trons. All I have to say is that my eyes glazed over the first time I played one. No dope needed in the meatgrinder.
-With all due respect (because I didn't participate), I don't know how our refined opinions & discourse led us to... wherever it led us, but it ended up with a member distancing himself from the group. Kinda sad.

-Couldn't play the Wakeman interview video, but his frozen face on the screen reflected adequately his opinion on 'Trons.
-Loved Frank's video on the 'Tron start-up after the initial repair, and the others on youtube. Let's see more!
-The Kooks must've lost their roadcase for their tron. Or, maybe they have roadies with the "oh well, shit happens" attitude.
-Best wishes to those in poor health, keep your spirits up!
Thanks
-Bruce D.

Re: New mellotron string section

2009-10-07 by Tron400

It sounds good to me on the Streetly Library website, but I just noticed that the sample is 6 overdubs. I'd really like to hear just one. My ears aren't good enough to separate the string section from the other tracks on Frank's video and I wouldn't pass judgement on the sound based on a Youtube video anyway.

I agree. There is no fidelity on you tube. Also, the video was shot with my little Canon camera, so the sound is probably highly compressed. In that particular video, the only Mellotron sound is the "New String Section." It sounds really good if you're in the room

I can assure you that it's stunning. The sound on the clip is probably from the video camera and is almost certainly compressed to shreds.

Listened to the new string section on the Streetly site, can't say I feel the need to part with any money, but I like the classic strings which could make it onto my next and final tape set.

I like the new string section but it doesn't sound like a Mellotron. My next tape set will be 8 voice choir, brass, and old string section without cello.

I agree, I think that might be why I don't like it.

I like the new string section but it doesn't sound like a Mellotron. My next tape set will be 8 voice choir, brass, and old string section without cello.

Trust me, Mark, if it comes out of a Mellotron it sounds like a Mellotron. I imagine farts played on a Mellotron would sound like Mellotron Farts. Mike? Anyone?
The new String section is just that... new. But it has a very Mellotrony quality. It sound really great and is just part of the ever expanding Mellotron sound palette. You can have all of the great classic sounds, but there are also some really great new sounds that fit right in.

I think you will find it difficult these days to find someone who can fart in tune for 8 seconds over 3 octaves! There was a french chap in the last century that probably could have managed it, but he is dead.

Blowing off, it's a trip.

It's a sin to hold it in, so let it rip!

But me, ( insert fart ) I blow off !

Believe it or not that was banned by the BBC, Oh happy innocent days!

Hey-
A fart recording session with autotune might work. Use several sources, like the "Cat" sessions did. It would put Le Petomane to shame.

For that authentic tron sound they would have to genuine live farts, otherwise you might as well use a sampler!

Wonderful!

Is that a new tape set? What's it called? Is it on the M4000?

I like the new string section but it doesn't sound like a Mellotron. My next tape set will be 8 voice choir, brass, and old string section without cello.

I did have a point, yes, and for the second time recently, something quietly removed my text. Actually, it wasn't a particularly interesting point, but since you mention it...
[The point] I had two [CMC-10s], and they were shite. The first was a wreck after twelve years and the second lasted about six. My Streetly SMS-whatever-it-is is ten and going strong. :-)
Was that pointless?

That's just about how my Mellotron sounds. It still has the CMC-10 and original tapes. It not very usable or inspiring to play at the moment.

Great job, BTW.

I agree, I think that might be why I don't like it.

I like the new string section but it doesn't sound like a Mellotron. My next tape set will be 8 voice choir, brass, and old string section without cello.

Well this isn't interesting either but my cm10 has been in for 35 years and the tron sounds ok!

Do you have a point Andy, or is that why you wear that odd hat?
Tony
I did have a point, yes, and for the second time recently, something quietly removed my text. Actually, it wasn't a particularly interesting point, but since you mention it...
[The point] I had two [CMC-10s], and they were shite. The first was a wreck after twelve years and the second lasted about six. My Streetly SMS-whatever- it-is is ten and going strong. :-)
Was that pointless?

I had one, and no it wasn't that bad.

I love it!
Just drop your old CMC-10 back in and you too have a shot at this "distinct" sound!
Thanks Mike!

Well, as perfect as a Mellotron can play, as far as I can tell.

I almost crapped in mine….Mike – it’s a masterpiece – Up there with Spike Jones and PDQ Bach…As someone who played NIWS in my cover band with my Chamberlin, though without any ‘tron wobblies, it hits close to home - #19 with a bullet!

Thanks!

Classic! If you substitute those violins with some particularly worn out umpteenth-generation M400 violins, that's how my first M400 sounded, complete with its knackered CMC4 and disintegrating belt.
