Power cord question...

Power cord question...

2009-06-29 by DaSwans

I picked up #857 (advertised at #854) yesterday and it's a blast. Everything appears to be working alright considering the tapes are 35 years old and the heads were dirty. However, the power cord was rigged up by the previous owner and I want to do something a bit more correct and safe.

He took a new cord from Streetly and lopped off the plug end and twisted the wires onto the last 6 inches of an orange extension cord. I picked up a new heavy duty screw on plug from the hardware store but before I wire it up, I'd like to make sure I do it right. None of the colors of the Streetly wires correspond to anything American. I need to know which is ground, positive, and negative.

The wire colors on the Streetly cable are:

Brown
Blue
Green/Yellow

So experts, before I make the wrong guess and blow this thing up, which is which?

Thanks!

MAKE SURE THE GROUND/EARTH IS CONNECTED IN THE POWERPACK! Just because it
is there doesn't mean it's connected so put a meter across the metalwork
of the main frame and the ground wire to check the continuity.

Um... Why don't you ask Streetly?

Because I know Martin checks here everyday and that maybe we all could learn something from my question. The more we all know about this stuff the better.

Hi All-
The wire-color standards are valid, providing there have been NO modifications to the input section inside the power supply of the 'Tron. You can't assume that the supply has been untouched, especially if it has an SMS-2 or SMS-3 motor controller. Get the supply checked, too.
