OT: Wurlitzers

2009-05-28 by Andy Thompson

Dear all
I'm sure many of you own Wurlys - I've just bought one that has a few probs, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me off-list? Not least how you get the bloody lid off. :-)
Cheers,
Andy T.

vintagevibe.com

They are Wurli/rhodes experts, have a lot of resources/manuals/videos and will do repairs/restorations. Fortunately for me, they are located only .5 hours from me, so I just took mine there. Good guys, very passionate about vintage instruments and Streetly-esque in their meticulous and fastidious ways.

I love mine. Like a tron, samples don't do it justice.

Do they also drink lots of beer and dress up in women's clothes on
Fridays?

I just got back my Wurly 200 amp board that I'd sent down to vintagevibe. They did a great job rebuilding it. It is absolutely quiet now. Not inexpensive however.

Look them up on the Youtube. They've posted plenty of useful repair and maintenance videos.

In instrument repair, I've found you always get what you pay for. Vintagevibe is a good case in point. Pay for cheap and you get cheap. Sounds like you got the job done right.

My wife has to get her flute overhauled, something that has to be done every 2-3 years. Her flute technician charges $1400. Is it worth it? Yes! Every darned penny. (The flute is only worth only about $8000.) Over the years, I'll bet she's spent $20,000 on overhauls. It's just the cost of doing business.

A good instrument repairman is worth his weight in gold.

Except for Martinge. He's worth his weight in beer.

It's hard to find shit beer in the UK -- unless you choose imports.
