Can
you tell us about the black trim, control panel and cheek blocks?
Your
mellotron looks and sounds great
The look of my machine is due to JB & MS's
wonderful restoration about 12 years ago.
As you can see from the vid, mine is one of the dreaded
EMI machines, that was in tatters when I bought it. It had been rotting in
someone's basement for at least 10 years before that. Streetly completely
restored it to health, re-aligning everything, basically rebuilding it from
scratch. The control panel was black originally black, but the guys gave it a
paint job, so as to look like new. Any parts that were missing, they either had
as spares, or were able to manufacture.
The front cover was missing, so one had to be made, hence the
black. (It's white on the other side).
The black trim is something I added a couple of years ago to
protect the edges of the cabinet from everyday wear and tear.
It plays like a brand new machine, particularly with the new
tapes, and I love it to bits.
However, I do get asked to do the occasional session or
small gig, and I am no longer prepared to risk damaging it or doing my back in
lifting it. That's why the Memotron is such a worthy substitute. It's cool to
look at, very fast in use, extremely portable, and, would you believe it, it
even sounds like a Mellotron!............................................ But
it's not!
