No, Frank. Dave's response was rude. He called Mike a liar, did he not? I don't think you'd be too happy if someone you didn't know called you a liar. If Dave wanted questions answered, he should have asked them in a civilized manner. It's lucky that Mike is just so damn nice about these kinds of things.

Or not.

No, Dave (or Will), you're rude. You have no way of knowing if Mike is
telling the truth or not, and even if you did, you're still rude.
I have a much easier time believing that Mike has played a birotron,
than I do believing that you know the condition and action adjustment of
every remaining birotron keyboard out there. Hell, you don't even know
which one Mike is talking about...or who it belonged to. So there.

Mike played a Birotron here at Streetly and the action was not to our
tastes. I didn't like it neither did John, Mike and probably not even the
current owner!

To sum up..........

The Birotron in it's marketed form was a flawed design that was well
engineered from a sturdy construction point of view (nice castings) but having
taken one apart and rebuilt it from the ground up, the end result just didn't
justify the effort and expense. The feel was poor, the ensuing noise was
a grave disappointment. Low fi, azimuthy, noisy and pointless. Sad but
true. Very collectable though.............just like Trabants!

I don't know where you were brought up, Dave, but where I come from,
calling someone a liar when you don't have all the information is
rude. If you had asked your questions directly, along the lines of,
"I'm curious, Mike. When and where did you play a Birotron", and then
he didn't come clean, you could then justifiably call him a liar. But
to call Mike a liar right out of the box? No. It's rude.

Sigh...
  • The one I played was #005 which is the same one Ryo is now selling on e-Bay.
  • I played it at Streetly some years ago when it was being renovated
  • I found the sound reproduction pretty crummy, and the clattering of the cartridges distracting
  • I also found the key action horrid. I found it heavy, hugely 'oversprung' and more tiring on the hands than even the Mellotron.
That's all there is to it. Please don't bother to retract your remark about me being a liar, Dave. I'd rather not hear from you again.
