Off topic Portative Organs

2009-02-28 by Mark Pring

I have been listening to Last FM and have come across a lot of music, I haven't heard before: Strawbs, Syd Barrett, The Oyster Band, Gryphon, Anne Briggs, The Incredible String Band, Ivor Cutler and finally a wonderful track by Shirley Collins called All Things are Quite Silent which I actually bought off Itunes, it has that wonderful ever so slightly out of tune singing which I find quite rivetting and this fantastic accompniment on the portative organ.

Apparently you can build them, here is the link:

Anybody had a go? I hesitate to start on a new obsession should really get the tron sorted first.

PS Jokes on this topic are too easy, like shooting fish in a barrel.

PPS I never thought I would get back into folk music again, it's where I started but there does seem to my ears to be some sort of similarity to baroque music.
