I need to ship something in the same size and
fragility range as an M400 from Kansas to Italy. Can anybody offer any
suggestions, advice, warnings, anything to set me on the right path to succeed
at this task?
The answer
kind of depends on whether the transaction is business to business or
personal. The difficulty is not the packaging or finding a shipper but
rather preparing the necessary documents that must accompany the
item. Clearing customs with the appropriate paperwork if the key. I
recommend you job it out to a company in your area that has
experience with Italy. The rules very greatly by country . Good
luck.

The best way to make sure the contents don't get
damaged is to package the item inside a wooden box, and then to "float" that box
with lots of styrofoam / insulation inside a much larger box.
This way the outer box takes the brunt of all the
banging and the inside box does not incurr the any of
the impact.

Another way to avoid damage is to drive it to Italy.
