By "professional" artist, I assume he means that the person got paid to
do this to the tron.

According to the text, it's not surprising to hear that Martinge was
"fascinated by the artwork". Looks like some drunk puked on it and they painted

Frank, you read "The Wizard of Oz"? Are you now going to tell us that

After noting the initial ebay auction, I wondered what became of this 'tron. Glad to find out that Streetly did some work on it. I'm sure its "bark" is now better than its "bite" (and it surely BITES). It's still a bit scary. Faux Italian marble would look better.
I'm now a bit more motivated to get #1221 properly re-finished.

We can all wax lyrical about the paint job on the 'tron and it is
loud'n'proud, BUT in real life it is quite pleasing if eccentric. The paint appears to
be oils and carefully done. I would not have contemplated such an act
myself but now it exists, so what? It's one persons expresssion. This garish
mellotron is less repulsive to me than the excesses of most progressive
crap....sorry, rock.

In an interview, Rick Wakeman said he actually torched 2 Mellotrons in
his back garden on the 5th of November 1982(!) There was a rumour that
a Birotron went up in the same conflagration, but he subsequently
denied this.

I like Mellotrons, John. The Unicorns were not an option. But they do kind
of go together. I've decided to eventually restore the machine and leave the
outside of the cabinet alone. It's kind of a statement of the times.

Re: [newmellotrongroup] Re: Gordon Bennett

2009-01-21 by lsf5275@aol.com

I Think I'm just going to put a Plexiglas insert in it. Maybe with hinges in
case someone feels the need to grab the flywheel. The back panel with the
Unicorns is badly warped and I'll need to get that out without cracking the
paint. Otherwise, the machine is in bits and pieces in my shop waiting for me to
get the energy to go back to it. I haven't really touched a Mellotron since
last June. I haven't felt really well in a while.
I did get around to installing a new cook top, range hood and double oven in
the kitchen this past weekend. The first meal? Eggs!

I often wander down to my shop and look around and wonder where the wonder
went. It seems so overwhelming these days. The kitchen stuff had to be done or
I wouldn't get fed. I don't even feel the energy to upload the 911
restoration photos to my web page.

I am looking forward to meeting and working with Woolly and John Lees at
ROSfest in early May. I guess I'll have to do something soon. I still have the
white one and the black one, though and they both sound great. I thought I
would have sold them by now but it seems too much effort.

I barely have the energy to make my normal stupid comments on this list...
except this one.
