The Question---not THE BEST, just my favourite. The string sounds and arrangement in the acoustic section are the best for my taste.

music with Mellotron. Out of their repertoire, I'd pick...
Epitaph (ITCOTCK)
In the Wake of Poseidon (ITWOP)
Sailor's Tale (Islands)
Starless (Red)
The Fright Watch & The Talking Drum (The Night Watch)
Barley Butsford & Exiles (CD3 on The Great Deceiver)
Outside Crimson, then its Pampered Menial by Pavlov's Dog. EVERY track
has Mellotron, and it's quality. Check out the vocals "...like a choir
boy on speed..." There are many others I could choose, but a posting
can only be so big!

Many moons ago I saw Pavlov's Dog and the Tron guy was playing 2 M400s and played a flute too.Pretty stout for an opening act, in my opinion.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any Wakeman stuff...
I know the thread has moved from the best mellotron player to the best sounding mellotron player...
I have to put in some votes for "And You and I", "Six Wives" and lots of "Tales..."
Not great technically, but then again what is (amazing what you can do with 2 fingers...) Still, soothing to the ear...
Wooly always gets a vote... as does Tony and "Selling England..."
"But when you think of me tune in the frequency, Come out and play come out and play"...Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams
"Nothing can change the shape of things to come."...Max Frost"Any talent that we are born with eventually surfaces as a need"...Marsha Sinetar

Tangerine Dream my favorite electronic band.Been a listener since 74, the reason I bought my Tron so if you like the soundtrack from Sorcerer, I suggest the earlier stuff like Phaedra, Rubicon (70s) and decade by decade since.Tony#510PS those guys have used very large amounts of modular synths, Mellotrons and guitars smothered with effects :-).----- Original Message -----From: Lee RichardsSent: Friday, November 21, 2008 7:26 PMSubject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] Best mellotron playing ever? This topic found me dragging out old King Krimson stuff...year, Epitaph
