OT but with keys

OT but with keys

2008-09-18 by Jon

I was contacted last week by a production company that needed some nice current photographs of a Hammond Novachord for a project they are working on. I responded and told them that I would be happy to try to oblige them but would need a few days to supply it, and they said that was fine, their deadline wasn't until today to submit the photos for approval.
I spent four solid days excavating and cleaning my nightmare of a garage enough to reorganize and make room to pull a Novachord out and be able to set some backdropping in order ;to get some decent photos. I spent another day cleaning, polishing, and doing minor repairs to the prettiest of my Novachords in hopes that I could get it looking good enough to pose for some pretty pictures.
A photographer friend of mine came over and took shots under different lightings and from different angles, took the camera home and did some cropping and editing, and came up with a nice array of attractive Novachord photos. I submitted the photos and got word back yesterday that the Art Director for the project was very pleased with the results and approved the photographs for use. They sent releases for my photographer and I to sign, and I faxed them back today, so it's a done deal.
A photograph of my Hammond Novachord is going to appear in the companion DVD included in the upcoming release of Disney's "Pinocchio" on DVD, and I'm going to get name credit as the owner of the instrument! Even if I can't be famous, at least my toys can...
So, here's Novachord #1431, looking prettier than she has in decades. Still waiting on restoration, so not functional yet, but looking like this is really making getting all of the electrical work done a lot more urgent!

Sorry, Jon, this damn thing is just OOZING stress. Send it along. I
don't usually take anything but mellotrons, but you seem like a nice
guy, so I'll make an exception.

No need to thank me. Just knowing your stress will be so much lower is
all the thanks I need!

Your pal,

Rick

Oh my God... I would absolutely LOVE to own a Novachord! I've never seen one in Britain.

You're a lucky man. Swop you a Bird organ. Go on!

Best wishes,

Yes, that's what finally kicked me into high gear to find, uh, one of them and get it working. I suspect he was contacted by the production company but didn't respond because he's too busy trying to get settled in and back to full operations again. And he did the most wonderful job on my 2600 last year!

he did my 2600 as well and it kicks....

congrats...
he kinda yanked me around about my odyssey for months.
i was all ready to drive it to him and drop it off.
he kept pushing it back over and over...
i finally bought a few new sliders from synthfool and put them in myself.
it was a lot easier than i thought, and now i can clean and refurbish the ones i removed, and use them to replace another set of four, and continue until all the linear 100ks are refurbed [and most of the sliders on an odyssey are 100k linear]. if you take them apart carefully they can be cleaned up pretty nicely, though not as smooth as the new ones, they are a lot better than having 30+ years of gunk and dust in them!

i have heard nothing but good things about his work [other than taking forever], but he kinda hosed me by not accepting the work after promising to do so. oh well...

...jeff

and congrats on the wurly, fritz. i adore those things.

Re: [newmellotrongroup] Re: OT but with keys

2008-09-18 by Jon

I took a different tack - I told him I didn't want anybody other than him to do mine and that I wasn't in any hurry, that I wanted to just send it and let him work on it when he got to it because it wasn't doing any good sitting around my house, and that I wouldn't ask him about it and would just wait until he contacted me and told me it was done. It took the better part of a year, but I got it back and it's wonderful. I didn't have any updates or mods done, I wanted to be able to get familiar with a really stock early Seventies 2600 for now and I can ;always get it upgraded at a later date. It worked for me and I got just what I wanted out of the deal, so I'm happy with how everything went.

he kept pushing it back over and over...
i finally bought a few new sliders from synthfool and put them in myself.
it was a lot easier than i thought, and now i can clean and refurbish the ones i removed, and use them to replace another set of four, and continue until all the linear 100ks are refurbed [and most of the sliders on an odyssey are 100k linear]. if you take them apart carefully they can be cleaned up pretty nicely, though not as smooth as the new ones, they are a lot better than having 30+ years of gunk and dust in them!

i have heard nothing but good things about his work [other than taking forever], but he kinda hosed me by not accepting the work after promising to do so. oh well...
