Facebook is no longer relevant to me

Facebook is no longer relevant to me

2016-06-15 by guajian@yahoo.com

Hi Folks,

Just a FYI that I have closed my Facebook account due to all the political bullshit. I can't believe what a relief it is! A weight has been lifted!

Cheers,

Bernie

Thank you, Fritz. It's much appreciated. Facebook has its value. I found a cousin that I had lost contact decades earlier and I met a lot of great people. I'll miss some of the groups, especially the Mellotron groups and the Connecticut Bands from the 50's, 60's and 70's group that I started, but those are the breaks.

Cheers,

Bernie

Bernie, you're right.  It's become anti-social media.  I wish you well.

I agree. If I didn't have my shop page here I would rarely, if ever, sign on. One thing I have done is to unfollow those who post vitriol or outright bullshit. I don't need the anger and the provocation. I try to make Facebook as much positive experience as possible.

Hi Bernie,
I am sorry you are leaving fb but of course I understand,it has gotten out of hand with the politics and the judging. Although we are seemingly on different sides of the fence on some issues I respect your opinion. It is all very frustrating and I doubt any of us know the complete answers to the worlds troubles :) I don't pick my friends based on who they vote for, I don't even pick them by what bands they listen too or whether they use digital or analog mellotrons! I will miss your interesting posts and hope you keep in touch via e-mail. Alos..thanks for buying my cds!! :)

My original reaction when I saw this was, "Bernie Sanders is on our Mellotron list?!?!?".😉
Even though I post a lot of political "bullshit", I find taking the occasional break from FB quite refreshing.  Take care, Bernie, feel better, and don't forget to post here every once in while

If I decided to block or unfollow people, there would be so many that it would take a lot of work to set up. Facebook didn't start out this way for me, but it's turned into a real hellhole and a waster of valuable time. Anyway, I don't actually get deleted until two weeks later, but I can't log on without reactivating my ID.

Bernie

All I know is none of this crap is going to change my life for the better. I'm still in some ways a hippie and an anarchist at heart and I'm going to go along my merry way living my life just as I always have.

I think I have all your CDs now, Tom. You have a way with scales and harmony that I haven't heard from other musicians. You are a true innovator!

Bernie

Many people confuse the two of us. I wonder if he knows what a Mellotron is.

I've been checking in here every day since before Facebook, so I'm not going anywhere. It's good to see that at least some of our old crowd still stops by.

Cheers,
Bernie

I'm still on Facebook, but it's true, I rarely look at it, either. It is a tremendous time-soak if you let it be. For me it's mostly a promotional tool, & there's NO doubt, it has also put me in touch with old school friends and band mates with whom I'd otherwise have never connected. That's been a big benefit, but yes, an occasional one.

As far as Bernie Sanders... I think if he ever knew what Mellotrons were, he'd just wanna make sure everyone HAS one, maybe even for free (though who's really paying for all this "free" stuff, right?). So much for that bit of benevolent "exclusivity" that Mellotron aficionados perhaps enjoy, that allows us the quiet (or NOT so) pleasure of turning others on to them!

I moved in February, and have been rebuilding my studio in my basement (a rarity in California!!). Having completed the bulk of the carpentry and finally created the space for keyboards, it gave me immense pleasure to slide my l'il M-400 into its place under the gorgeous MemoryMoog synth that sits on a wooden stand I'd built years ago specifically to fit over the Mellotron. (It's a nice arrangement: the Mellotron is on a small, vintage Ampeg amp dolly that fits perfectly between the feet, and the simple, cherry-stained stand allows me to easily pull it straight out to open it up for whatever purpose - often just to show visitors what it is!)  I digress slightly, but the point was the pleasure it gave me to put the Mellotron in place before anything else went in. That, with my MiniMoog, various guitars (my main instrument), and a little Dokorder 4-track r-to-r, pretty much paved the way to buy everything else in the studio. What an astounding instrument, and as relevant today as ever!

Berington
