It was my first time at
NAMM and it was great fun trying new guitars, basses, keys, amps, etc.
Wow, it is huge. It's also amazing how much crap there is out there -
but there was some really excellent quality gear. My son's quest was
in-ear monitors and over-ear headsets. Audio Technica ATH-R70x were the
best phones and by far the most comfortable. The AudioFly AF1120's won
the in-ear sweepstakes. Too many highlights to mention. My son joined me
for two of my three days of wading through a sea of people.
I visited with Markus and played the digital machines (all three) and
the Mark VI - my first time with them.
Also went over to the Moog stand where my son and I fiddled with the
modulars - he got a short lesson on ADSR and VCO's and such. He was
inspired... As we were getting up to leave I noticed the badge on an
older fellow standing nearby, and - wouldn't you know it - it was Dave
Van Koevering and he was part of the Moog company's entourage. I
introduced myself by way of saying that I remember seeing his machines
in Dave Kean's collection. We had a nice 15-20 minute chat - talking
about Bob Moog, music, etc. He's a walking history lesson in things
synth-y - very interesting man and very nice.

Mark -
I'll be at NAMM for the first time tomorrow. I'll see if I can check on
that.

There is a rumour that Waldorf are going to bring a
mellotron sample play back unit in the same format as the the
Striechfett, as I already have M-tron pro and the Streetly expansion
pack I wouldn't be interested myself but I could see it as a challenge
to the M4000 D and the memotron particularly if it is at the same price
point as the Striechfett or Rocket.
Off
topic the keyboard that really does excite me is the Korg Minilogue
which looks like it will be a modern minimoog.
