M4000D vs. Memotron

M4000D vs. Memotron

2015-11-08 by loserslounge2000@yahoo.com

Apologies if this has been covered before. I recently sold my M400, and though I'll miss it, I look forward to the convenience of a "digital Mellotron". I'm kind of leaning toward the M4000D because of the polyphonic aftertouch. Any thoughts from the group? I don't think I'll ever be able to play either of them to "test them out", so I'm curious to hear what people think.

Thanks,

Joe McGinty

As far as I am concerned the only replacement for an M400 is an M4000 without the D. ` If I want to play digital samples  I am not going to rebuy old technology. I get out my ASR10 or my laptop and the Pinder CD.

If you are going digital, try the iPad Mellotronics M3000 app or GForce MTron Pro. Both sound more authentic that the M4000D at a fraction of the cost. If you need an actual keyboard, wait for the new Memotron from Manikin. It's a dream.

Is the new Maniken keyboard going to have polyphonic aftertouch?

Why would you want it? It's a mellotron! When the Mellotronics iPad app came out we had emails asking why there were no filters etc. It was attempting to be a mellotron and nothing more.

Exactly what I was thinking! There is no aftertouch on a Mellotron. If there is, it needs looking at!
These myths still persist don't they? Even when my M400 had a CMC10 you couldn't bend pitch by leaning on the keys...PM
