Ahh.. that's just bee-yootiful. Whose is it? I quite like the paintjob. Especially the fantasy mural. Not sure about the Pepperesque scheme on the ebaytron though.

Let's hope this year is better than the last, I'd still like to have another M400. My dear 151 gets quite lonely, she hasn't seen another Tron for over ten years now and with the workshop spilling over into the practise room she's crowded in by big 'orrible 'Ammonds, Birds and the like. She's started to get a complex about it..

oh jeez.
looks like 2008 is shaping up to be 'the great year of the mellotron
refinishing rush'. all the ugliest are crawling out of the woodwork.

i fear it will get worse before it gets better :(

Awesome. Noy only is hre a car buff, but a Mellotron buff as well. Besides, wasn't the Melltron he metioned getting from 10CC's sold on eBay at some point, supposedly?

The only "Tron" on there is the Gizmotron (the Godley/Creme guitar attachment that allows you to bow the strings via serrated wheels).

It's doing the cello sound alongside those overdubbed vocals. You can also hear it throughout / at the end of 10cc's "Lazy Ways", where it sounds somewhere between a cello and those vocals.

It's an interesting device in that it makes some odd harmonics, but it never seems to sound the same twice. Sometimes it sounds great, other times terrible. I don't know if that's by design or not.... (probably not!)

It would make a great Mellotron sound if you could get it stay kinda "stationary" in tone so that there wouldn't be huge differences from note to note. (I'm starting to think this has to do with subtle temp / humidity changes)

Maybe this can be done using the same size serrated wheel on the string. There's 3 different types.

Oddly, it might even be better in say T Dreams "Loop Mellotron" (or a Birotron) because the underlying harmonics can interact longer than 8 seconds (at least through a delay) depending on how hard or soft the wheels are pressed against the strings. Having it on Mellotron tape would also save the wheels from wearing down / splintering and falling off.

A great idea I think that I shouldn't give up on just yet.

So, the Mellotron that 10cc used for "I'm Not In Love?" That had to be worth a fortune, considering they didn't do it with a Mellotron...
