OT: Cubase Elements

Anybody here using Cubase Elements? I have the last upgrade of Cubase 5 and I see that Cubase is now up to v7. For a Cubase 5 user, the upgrade is $250. That seems kind of high to me. As someone who mainly uses Cubase to play VST instruments and do some recording, Cubase Elements looks ideal. I have no use for automation or any of the fancier features that Cubase has. So, is it worth switching to Elements, or would I be better off just sticking with Cubase v5, which at some point will probably no longer be supported by Steinberg (if it even still is)?

Hey Bernie,

You might want to take a look at Reaper before investing in the new Cubase. I finally took Cubase (5.5) off of my machine and have Reaper for mastering and Pro Tools for mixing. Pro Tools won’t run VST plugins and instead runs RTAS which are more efficient and when mixing a lot of tracks that is obviously a good thing. Reaper is great for running VST plugins, you might want to give it a try. I have not used the V7 Cubase so I can’t really comment on that.

Thanks, Gary. I will take a look at Reaper, Cubase Essentials is only $99, so if prices are competitive, the feature sets would be the determining factor.
