I'm as ready as I can be. This looks to be a nasty one. As long as my property is not affected I can go at least a week without power, so we'll see. NJ is right in the middle of it.

NY shuts down at 7PM and NJ at 12PM. I'll try and take some pictures to post. I've seen electrical power companies from as far as Tennessee and Michigan coming into the region, so it seems the authorities are taking this one seriously.

Even my dog is a little skiddish today. Both kids are offsite, so that's a little unnerving.

We used to get a lot of hurricanes around here back in the 50's and into the 60's, but it's been pretty quiet until Irene. That one was bad only because the power companies were unprepared, leaving us in the dark for up to two weeks (only 5 days at my house, though). The crews have been out the last few days cutting away limbs and branches, so the outages shouldn't be as bad. I feel sorry for people near the shore, though. They'll need to evacuate their homes because of the flooding.

Thank you! The winds are gathering force and I live pretty close to the water but on a bit of hill. If worse comes to worse I will drag my M400 up the stairs-I vow no water will touch it!!

From out here in LA-LA Land, my very deepest thoughts & prayers for all you who've had to deal with Superstorm Sandy, and hope that none of you have had any kind of damage aside from maybe picking up some tree debris in the yard. What a nightmare, and for a change, it turned out to be "as promised." With a sister in Quogue, Long Island, very near rhe water, and another with a very angry Lake Michigan (& 25' waves!) literally as her back yard, I've been watching Sandy with the highest interest. And with so many of you in her path as well, just know we hope all's gone okay for you. Please post as you can, and let us know, eh? Like... when the power's back up?

I hope everyone got off as easy as we did. Power went out about 8:00 pm and came back on about 1:30 am. My wife walked around the neighborhood this morning and didn't see any real damage. Worst was an uprooted tree.

RE: [newmellotrongroup] Re: Sandy

Well, we have been fortunate over the years, but alas, no more. North NJ is a disaster area. We expect power to be back on within a week or maybe two. I never thought I’d see long gas lines again up here, but it took a few hours to get enough gas to run the generator for a while. Without heat and well pump, this would truly be a nightmare, but thanks to the Genelec, this is at least tolerable, far better than last fall when the house was dark for three days and the house temp was 40. The oak population is sadly diminished even more with this storm. Many folks up here are faring much worse than I but it appears most are chipping in to get things back to pseudo-normal. I am fortunate in many regards. And thank you Verizon for Mobile Hot-spot.

I've relocated to Wilmington, DE temporarily. Rural NJ is a wasteland. We share a house in Ventnor NJ with my brother-in-law and his family. Ventnor is on the same island as Atlantic City...you get the picture. Traveling through NJ is very difficult. There are no basic services where we live. Everyone seems to be doing ok.

Those are the headlines.

Glad to hear most of you have done pretty well. John & Fritz, it sounds like a nightmare, but at least you guys are out of immediate harm's way. I can't even imagine where you'd begin with such a disaster! Best of luck to you, and may FEMA work MUCH better now than it did after Katrina!
Yeah, Frank, that's exactly what concerned me the most, too. The dreaded Stick in your yard! Hope you've roped it off so no one gets hurt before you have it removed! HA! With your immense woodworking skills, maybe you can give it a "driftwood" treatment and fashion it into some kind of "Sandy Memorial" Mellotron ornament!
Seriously, the best to all of you who've had major or minor calamities befall you... do know that we're all thinking of you, and wish you a speedy return to a "new normal."
Best,
Berington

I too had one stick fall in my yard. It's about 60 feet long, and about 18 inches in diameter. Fortunately it was nice enough to not fall on the bedroom. :)

Good luck to you & your family, Fritz. I'm glad to hear that everyone seems to be doing ok. Hopefully the services will be back up and the authorities will make significant progress with the clean up so that you can be back home for Thanksgiving.

My best wishes to you and everyone else effected by this storm.

Most of the leaves were blown out of our yard, making cleanup easier than last year. Send me some photos of yours and I'll see if I recognize any of them.

We came through fine. I found a stick in my side yard. Not much damage in our community as a whole. I was amazed that there wasn't more.

I have a 600 watt inverter that runs off a 12 volt battery. I keep a fully charged deep cycle battery handy for other things. I can run my laptop, a keyboard controller and ear buds. My micokorg runs on batteries and with the ear buds I'm fully capable of making music that is just as horrible as any I could make any other time.

Pretty Bad.
Of course I've had no Mellotron ...ever.
