New sound

Just to let you know that we have an American Pump Organ on it's way, courtesy of our good chum Jim Licka up near Chicago.  Mike 'The Bastard' Dickson will be putting it up on the Tape Library site shortly.  Take a listen when you can.  Comments welcome.  Thanks.

p.s. the image below is of the perspex sign that adorned Bill Fransen's door at Streetly in Birmingham.  It now has pride of place over the studio door here at Streetly Part 2.  It's very '60s.

Ah yes, Engraved Haas Grotesk, one of my favourite type faces. You should take it upon yourself bring it back into style, old bean.

As for the new sound, can you explain the difference between the sounds produced by American Pump Organs as opposed to British Pump Organs? I do know that Scottish Pump Organs are always cold and damp (with midges) and Canadian Pump Organs can only be used for playing hockey music. English Canadian Pump Organs also don't work in Quebec, while it's just the reverse for French Canadian Pump Organs.

Do you plan on doing all of these wonderful sounds?

Rick

I'm sure that would be  a kind of gaspy-wheezy sound. Like air being rushed out of an old leathery bag.

This is a rather brilliant addition to the Streetly library to be sure. I think that Mike has many hours on a pump organ buried somewhere in his past -- although he would never admit to it. Probably, he played for a small Presbyterian church in a remote corner of the Highlands when he was a wee lad.

As for the sound itself, it sounds to me like all the stops were pulled out to get that sort of sound. It might be interesting to have a different recording with only one or two to use alongside this one.

Oh crap! More new sounds to have to choose from. Too many choices! When will it all end?  Actually, it's nice to see so many new, high quality sounds being produced. Too many choices is a good thing!

One note. Octaves is way too dense.

Are "real" pump organs difficult to get a hold of in the states or the U.K ? Because in Sweden people are just giving them away...

Here too. I see them on Craig's list all the time. I have wanted to get one, but my wife says I am gasping and wheezing enough.

Here on Ferenginar we don't give anything away. $1000 - $2000 for a
nice one.
