Astounding...

Re: Astounding...

Actually very Yes-ish, maybe from around the "Drama' period, but the singer was just too creepy!!!!! Ain't no Jon Anderson there. Yeah, nice bass... I've got a red one, around late 70s vintage... nuthin' like a nice ol' Ric. Didn't see any Mellotron here, tho. Would've been fun, considering the obvious influences.

RE: Ric Bass

Well mine is a '75 'burgundy-glo' or 'wine-glo'; I'm not sure which as there were variations in each.

I am seriously jealous Bernie. I used to have a white '72 (at least I think it was '72..it was old) 4001. Stupid me, I sold it to by a fretless p-bass, which I butchered...the stupidity of youth.

I would love to get a natural 4001 or 4003 some day.

Fritz,

When I was young and stupid(er), I almost sold it. So happy I didn't. The '75 Rics were on display in the store window on the day I bought it. A friend working in the store went to the basement and retrieved my '74. '75 was a major change in the 4001's, so my '74 is probably very similar in feel to your '72. I just ran my hand up and down the neck and bought it without even plugging it in. Never regretted it. The walnut finish is a rare finish for Ric basses.

Nice story. When you have a moment, can you share a photo? I'd love to see it. I do think the Ric is one of, if not, the prettiest instruments ever made. some day....

The Rolling Stones - 50 Years Ago

2012-07-19 by Robert

For the most part, I have liked The Rolling Stones albums up through "Exile on Main Street" and a "few" songs since, but must admit I have never been a huge fan like I have been of The Beatles.

Anyway, I thought some of you might like this article and video.

I've got a red one, around late 70s vintage... nuthin' like a nice ol' Ric. Didn't see any Mellotron here, tho. Would've been fun, considering the obvious influences.

No, and I should have because my local club, CATO, was one of the sponsors. But I couldn't see driving 5.5 hours each way since I could only have stayed for one day. I did make it to NERFF 8 though. Unfortunately METRA lost the waiver that weekend and is now fighting with the FAA to get it back. I really like METRA's field; 2 miles by 2 miles and perfectly level. The owners are really nice and are there at every launch. The ceiling was 12,500 feet, but is now down to 3000, so nothing over a small H can be flown.

Yeah, it is a long drive.
Think I'd go just to get a look at Kari in real life.

I forgot she was going to be there. Maybe next year.
