MK-VI #019 - Bu-bye

Re: [newmellotrongroup] MK-VI #019 - Bu-bye

2012-07-03 by Robert

Clay,

I'm a bit confused, but you guys already know that. :-)

Is this the same Tron that you lent to John Medeski for the Spectrum Road show ?

What do you mean by the Ikea-Tron ?

Why did you sell it ?

I sold Ikea-Tron #019. It will be traveling around the Toronto area with a backine rental company. More space in the music room now. I'll replace it with something but don't know what.

You know the minute I read about Clay selling his Mellotron to a backline company - this vision come into my mind:
CHEECH: Heheh! Hey don't worry Clay man, yer Mellon tron is in good hands man, hehehe!.
CHONG: Hey man, the dude's... right... man, it's in good hands, yknow what I'm sayin?
CHEECH: Yeah, but whyz it called a Melon tron man huhuh?
CHONG: I don know man. Maybe you use it to like... cut.... Grapefruit on man...
CHEECH: Hey, grapefuits not a melon man!!
CHONG: Sure it is, it's big and round man...All Melons are big and round man.
CHEECH: Like that last car you borrowed - that car was a melon
CHONG: No man, you mean it was a lemon man....
CHEECH: Lemon? Hey isn't he that guy that guy that was in the Beedels man?
CHONG: Hey Dude....
CHEECH: Hey man I"m talkin to you man, do you know the answer to my question man?..
CHONG: Dude...
CHEECH: Hey are you listening man?? Listen when I....
CHONG: Dude - your cigarette man - you were holding it too close to the Melon tron and look what it did man - it burned a big hole in the side man.
CHEECH: Hey don't worry man, it's just a rental machine man. Besides, I know a guy living under that overpass over there. He can plug the whole with a frisbee man. And he paints unicorns too man!
CHONG: Unicorn? What that man?
CHEECH: Hey don't you know what a Unicorn is man???
CHONG: Uh......is it a car man?
CHEECH: No man, a Unicorn is not a car man!!
CHONG: Well what is it then man...?
CHEECH: A Unicorn is a Lizard man from Star Trek that has no penis man.
CHONG: Ohhhh....hey I played with that guy over on 8 mile road in Detroit man.

I have been looking at the Ikea Nord Electro 4D. (Viking red!)

A very good B3, Vox Continental, Farfisa simulator but it still only has 68 MB of flash memory for samples. Is that really a problem? If I can have two or three mellotron voices loaded at once, I'm happy. Any of you guys using an Electro 3?

I've got the nordwave ----threw out their tron samples and put my own in. As you say I have a lot less sounds as my samples took up alot of memory, but at least they sound good to me..

68 mb will hold three raw 44.1 kHz 16 bit Mellotron sample sets.

Claybaby,

Get yourself MTron Pro and the Streetly tapes. More authentic than any other software based keyboard. The only thing better is a real 'tron but you have obviously discarded that idea!

Would you be able to share mellotron samples that you uses in place of the Nord samples. I also have a Wave.

I played an Electro 3 recently, has a very nice action, good organ and piano sounds, somebody had wiped the mellotron sounds. I think my next keyboard will either be an electro 4 or a Kurzweil PC3K8, if I don't build a spinet, buy a harpsichord, buy a harmonium, build a porative organ or restore my tron!

i am very pleased with my electro 3, although the sample memory is only 68 you can use it nearly 10 to 11 mellotron sounds, the looped versions which sound decent enough. Its a great all around instrument

ps: the unlooped versions are not that different,no blending though

Clay -

I've been using a Nord Electro 3 for a couple years now for band projects. (I've actually used it for some recording too.) I like it a lot. The Hammond, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Clavinet samples are all quite good (and I have a real Rhodes and D6). An XK-3c is much closer to a real Hammond but the Nord is still surprisingly good. I also used it to fill in for my Mk. VI when I had some repair issues recently and I was pleased with the accuracy of the Mellotron samples.

I think it plays well, is ridiculously light and swapping in/out sample sounds is incredibly easy.

The one thing you should know in advance is that the standard piano samples are average at best. It's hard to believe they could get so many of the other samples so right and miss so badly on a freaking piano, but somehow they did. Perhaps there's an improved download for that now.

Other than that, it's been a plus to have around.

Thanks Rick. There is a v5.3 - Piano samples. This Electro 4D demo is quite good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8HFLuyuT3w&feature=related

I'm sure I could wire a Nord Electro to M-Tron Pro easy enough.
