Dewtron Bass pedals

Dewtron Bass pedals

2012-05-13 by Mark Wallis

hey folks- do any of you own a DEWTRON 'Mister Bassman' bass synth, as used by Mike Rutherford and Chris Squire before the advent of the Moog Taurus?

I've just acquired one via ebay.. for restoration etc.. .

Love and Scones,

congrats.. I just learned something
I remember that Rutherford a potent longwave generators in 72-73. Dewtrons custom rare and veddy English.
Neither of them used Crumars ? Crumars were so much easier and cheaper than anything else out there back in the 70s.I'd use those now.

Maybe it was a 'Buy British' thing.. who knows? Hmmm... the oscillator gubbins are completely potted in resin... Nice....
Ah well. It'll be worth it. The Dewtron sounded great on 'Can-Utility And The Coastliners' anyway, so that'll do for me in the absence of a Taurus 1..

There was a company in Texas that made custom bass pedals during the 70's. I had a set before I bought my Taurus I, but I don't remember the brand name. They were very light weight and only produced a couple of organ-like bass sounds. Does anyone know of this company?

I recall looking for these on the web a while back with not too much information available. I think these we sold as a kit like the old radio Heathkits.

I know they did build to order. I saw a few bands with weird touring keyboard rigs with their sticker on it, a few of them huge organs with full size synths in tolled covered road cases early 70s again.

I thought it might be Southwest Technical Products Corp (SWTPC), but after looking through what was available online, I didn't see anything like this. If it was a kit, then there was probably an article in Radio Electronics or Popular Electronics, as was the practice in many cases back then. You're not thinking of PAIA, are you? They were from Oklahoma though, but are still in business, I miss those inexpensive kits, although even $79.95 for a 100 watt amp was a lot of dishes washed at my after school job. A lot....

RE: [newmellotrongroup] Re: Dewtron Bass pedals

2012-05-14 by Mark Wallis

Talking of afterschool jobs done for gear... I was doing long factory nightshifts whilst doing a music course, 10.5 hrs 4 nights a week to save up for a Streetlyfied M400 back in 1996..
One night I got knocked off my motorcycle on the way to work and my bike was wrecked. The insurance payout got me the M400.. and I still have the bike.

Ah, the things we do for love.

Dewtron made real roadworthy gear, I think they sold subassemblies and they had a fabrication shop too they were like the Electronic Leo Quan of their day. They made some notable vcs3 competitor product. I bet they are in Peter Forrest’s book

It wasn't a kit. I ordered them from a local music store. The salesman told me they were made in Texas. It took about three months to get them.
