My EMI m400 morphs into a Streetly Gem!

My EMI m400 morphs into a Streetly Gem!

2012-05-09 by Andy Kinch

I've uploaded some more pics of my m400's sublime restoration to the members area in the album "My EMI m400 morphs into a Streetly Gem"
One lovely touch that I've just noticed is that the guys have cut my initials at various places to the inside of the cabinet, and I've included a pic of the underside of one of the keyboard end cheeks to illustrate the amazing attention to detail we're talking about here. (yes, the other one's done as well!).
Thanks again John and Martin.
Bravo.

I hope those are the only cheeks into which they've carved your initials!

Analysis: BankSynths Vintage Instrument Tour (Part 1)

2012-05-10 by Robert

This video was recently posted on YouTube, and I thought it would be of interest to some of you guys.

Well, Dave wouldn't invite me to his studio, but at least I got a virtual tour.

Cheers,

Robert

Thanks Robert, that was a great link plus several others.

I liked the RMI piano demo. When run through the phaser I heard several tones I always wondered about.

There was also a demo by TMB’s guitarist showing Hackett’s pedal board. One tone I’ve never been able to get is Hackett’s tone on “I Know What I Like” from the Seconds Out album. He has some ultra compressed sustained fuzz that is amazing. Any guitar players here ever been able to get close to this?

Regards,

John

I am a junkie with E-bow. Most of the time I use it while playing slide and with gobs of echo. Luscious! I had great hopes of using it with a Coral sitar, but the buzz bar prevented the strings from vibrating...I was looking for infinite sitar drone, then playing it with a slide...somebody stop me!

I'd be interested in knowing the exact settings on his Hammond. He seems like a "preset guy", so I wonder if the majority of Hammond sounds were obtained by using the tabs, rather than drawbars?

Sustain - E-bow, Fernandes Sustainer & Sustainiac Pickups, etc...

2012-05-11 by Robert

Has anybody on this list ever tried the Sustainer pickups made by Fernandes or the Sustainiac pickups made by guess who - Sustainiac ? I believe that Hackett and Fripp have used the pickups made by Fernandes.

Also, in recent years electro-harmonix has come out with the Freeze Sound Retainer and Ravish Sitar pedals.

Played an SK1 in Wellington recently, quite a nice keyboard, I liked the keyboard action. I think the organ sounds are pretty good, the piano and other voices less so. I think I'll hold on for a Nord Electro 3. I did buy a new keyboard recently, would you believe a Casio SA-46! I love it.

I've got an XK3 (not an XK3C). It's very solidly built, sounds great through my Motion Sound Pro-145 and feels like a Hammond should feel. It uses "long samples". Of what, I don't know. Maybe a B3? I've been wanting to try an SK1 to see if it can replace my current setup so I can save a little room in my tiny studio.

LOL...

I was reading Steve Job's biography. The part where he is deciding to build factories in China to build apple computers really pissed me off.

Then when he was choosing the glass for the IPhone and IPad his associate told him about a new glass by Corning (made in the USA). He had to be convinced to go with that company.

Its the same with just about everything. Parts built through outsourcing, and assembled in the US.

This is the first time I've sat through the whole video. It's a very good comparison. I have my virtual tonewheels set up to Jim's '58 B3. It's a nice improvement over the default setup.

Sadly perhaps, that's what being a capitalist is all about. Do the best you can do for the least you have to outlay. Why should Steve Jobs be limited in his scope to the USA if he views his market as being the whole world?

CZ-1000 here. I haven't plugged it in for ages but I used to use it as a MIDI controller for Hauptwerk (where touch was not an issue!)

My studio and rig is analog, always looking to trade and buy, the small stuff is the most important.

Anybody got a cz1000 clavier . My CZ1 keyboard needs replacing I need a Prophet 2000 clavier too. I hate using them as modules.

Solicitation is off topic I man sorry.

If we made it so that it was mutually beneficial like it was in the past it would help everybody instead of just me, me ,.... I got mine you get yours. That ignorant attitude is goiung to sink a lot of people... you can only buy so much until you and your money get boring.

Thay won't get it. dummies.

OT - Comicoperando in Amsterdam

2012-06-12 by Robert

I apologize for another OT post, but I thought some people on this list would enjoy seeing this recent YouTube video of Dagmar Krause, Annie Whitehead, Karen Mantler, Michel Delville, John Edwards, & Chris Cutler perform Robert Wyatt's music just over 1 year ago. I think the video and audio are of good quality, and the interview / discussions are interesting too.

I promise, the next YouTube I post will be more "Mellotronic".

Cheers,

Robert
