re: Tron Sounds on Soundcloud

Since I've seen a few others indulge in some similar self-promotion, I'm going to take this opportunity to do the same.

I just opened a Soundcloud account under my fake band name The Ashen Actuaries of Asgard and have uploaded some tunes. Many of them have tron sounds (which are tagged) as well as those of some other classic keys (D6 clavinet, Fender Rhodes, Moog).

However, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that my Mk. VI has been out of commission for several months due to a bum pre-amp. So most of what you hear is Mellotron Archive tape samples played through a Nord Electro 3. Not ideal, I know, but desperate times require certain accommodations. Hopefully the real thing will be back in action shortly.

If you feel like it, feel free to give a listen.

Thanks.

SoundCloud is a wonderful forum for sure. I like your open pastoral feel on O'Carolan's Dram.

I also have a SoundCloud page. Mostly failures live on my page I'm afraid,

It's a great idea for sure, but most of my unsold commercial work is part of a music library that my employer owns and that work is re purposed there. Come to think of it, I might have actually sold some of that stuff.

For personal unsold work, yeah! I'll check it out further. Thanks for the tip.

Rick,

Thanks for sharing your music; I've listened approximately 5 times and the more I hear it, the more I like it. Here are some of my early impressions:

O'Carolan's Dram - My favorite piece of the bunch. It reminds me of renaissance, celtic, traditional folk music arranged in a contemporary classical manner.

Herr Krampus - Reminds me a little of the style of Egg during their Civil Service period or an instrumental passage on a Hatfield and the North album.

Twenty Small Cigars - A very nice cover of a wonderful Frank Zappa piece.

Higgs Boson - In the beginning, Dave MacRae comes to mind. Then it goes into a George Duke period Zappaesque groove with Joe Zawinul and Jaco Pastorius arriving around 4:25.

Junk - By the title, I thought it was your dedication to the character "Leach" in the 1959 The Living Theater production and 3 years later, the movie "The Connection". All joking aside, it reminds me of George Duke meets "The Headhunters" while Bennie Maupin and Bill Summers go on a break.

October - This piece reminds me a little of something in the style of Alan Gowen (RIP) and his wonderful group Gilgamesh.

All in all - wonderful compositions written and performed tastefully; thanks again for sharing.

To my ears, your Nord Electro 3 sounds very good.

I hope you get the pre-amp in your Mk. VI fixed / replaced soon.

Oh, BTW - I noticed that you're in the Chicago area; if you already haven't done so, check out Dusty Groove Records, a very cool record shop.

Robert

Thanks so much for listening and your comments. I really appreciate it.

Your ears are spot-on. All the musicians you're calling out are big faves of mine - and probably who I'm stealing everything from. (Dave McRea was the only one I didn't get - feel free to enlighten me.)

If you have music of your own, please feel free to share. I'd love to hear it.

I do know Dusty Groove but I haven't been by it in a while. Very very fitting that you called it out as today is "Record Store Day" in America.

Thanks again for listening Robert. More to come.

Thanks for listening and commenting Fritz.

I checked out your page as well. Hardly failures. Really nice, deft arrangements and orchestrations.

I'm glad to hear you endorse SoundCloud. I'm looking forward to exploring it much more thoroughly.

Thanks.

Dave MacRae, etc.

2012-04-22 by Robert

Hi Rick,

I don't know a lot about Dave MacRae. He played keyboards (mainly electric piano) with Matching Mole and Nucleus and other Canterbury albums in the 70's. I haven't heard the other projects he was involved with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_MacRae

Unfortunately, I am not musically and technically gifted like most of the members on this list, you included. But maybe one day, after years of practice and education, I will contribute something that I think is worthwhile.

I look forward to hearing more of your music; I really enjoyed the tracks that you posted.

Robert
