That said....good rendition Mike! I don't think the Mellotron horns are quite up to the task though I liked your arrangement!

Thanks for all the kind words, but I reckon this shows up the extremely ropey quality of the Mellotron horns both in terms of tuning (which is all over the map) and timbres.

I cannot remember who asked, but the low drone in the background is a mix of 3/4 and 1/2 speed brass with a bit of slowed down cellos and 3-violins.

Hi all-
Okay, ELP's horns were okay, but their "Fanfare" was 4 minutes too long. As a teen prog enthusiast, most of their "Works" album sets disappointed me. I hated "Pirates". After "Brain Salad Surgery" I expected more pure synthesis, more space. I didn't get it (pun intended).
To be fair, I will give "Works" another listen soon.

Hi Bruce,

I have to agree about the Works stuff. I think Brain Salad Surgery was the last of my “top” ELP collection. Keith Emerson inspired me to play

however I was never able to play anything like him. I used to think about selling my keyboards after seeing him live out of that frustrationJ!!

Fanfare was long but it was usually due to the knife stabbing portion of the song/medley that didn’t transfer well if you weren’t seeing it live.

Best to All,

Gary

I recently received a copy of the Sprocket Sessions, Emerson, Lake and Cozy
Powell rehearsal sessions prior to their 1986 tour. Pirates and Tarkus are
featured along with the ELPowell material.

Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Sprocket-Sessions-Emerson-Lake-Powell/dp/B003JIOHBI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329946250&sr=8-1

This recording puts all the PUNCH back into the ELPowell and the EPL material.

Bill

I'm late on this topic but I was told by someone that it's actually cheaper to hire women and pay them to leave over a lifetime, than it is to marry them and divorce them.
That's not including all the stress and drama they can cause you.
Part of the problem is many women have lost their traditional values.
