Fripp

Fripp

2011-12-19 by Mike Dickson

If there exists anyone who still believes that Fripp is really 'the most rational man in rock music', read his latest diary entries on the DGM web site.

It appears that he has finally found his wish; to run a cult of clones for whom he is the soft spoken Yoda, within whom dwells the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket.

Q: This situation which often happens at meals, silence, seemed to be here last night but at a twenty-fold force compared to what we are used to. At least for my part, I very much found it difficult to hold on, as if completely before the unknown.

RF: When we are here, for the course of a week, we are in front of our entire lives. For each one of us our entire life is represented, from the moment of birth, to death, all in a week.

Ooh! Talk shite he does.

I don’t believe he has uttered a serious sentence in at least 40 years. He is a stone clown.

I think he tries to be comical but his sense of humor is odd.

He is quoted on the Fernandes guitars website: "Since using my Fernandes Sustainer, I have become the life and soul of any and every party. Guys look at me anxiously from corners of the room, while fawning bimbettes seek my opinions on the fetishisings of music's inherent and delineated meanings."

It just wouldn't be like him to say: "I love the Sustainer, it's really cool."

I'd quite happily chat to McDonald, but if Fripp walked into the room, I'd scarper!

What is it you don't have? I often pray that someone will come up with a bootleg of the 28th October 1973 gig at Birmingham (U.K.) Town Hall. I went to that gig, and in the 40-odd years I've been going to gigs, that STILL remains the best ever. Not loud, yet perfectly audible, Great music, perfectly played AND a good audience atmosphere. The highlight was a "Trio" style improv with Fripp & Cross playing BOTH their trons. Magic!

This comment reminds me of when I saw Genesis the first time they played a concert in Miami at the Gusman Philharmonic Hall (March 1974) for their Selling England by the Pound tour. Perfect sound (not loud) and performance.

i just want to say to everyone happy holidays--i don't post much but CRIMSON 69-74 are my all time favorite group----and i let THIN LIZZY slide in there too as a "ROCK" group-----AND SABBATH TOO

but regardless of how bizarre FRIPP is-----and he is!!!--it's amazing that he put together all of those subsequent line-ups that made incredible and totally different music......except i'm sure IAN MACDONALD never got his due for the POSEIDON record.....

i'm babbling---i just love that music.....and the trons!!!

Re: Fripp

2011-12-20 by mlcsixand78s

I have found many of Fripp's comments amusing. Perhaps some are intentional an others are not. Some appear to be very subtle.

At least once in his diary I read a statement along the lines of (this is not a verbatim quote, but it was something like this):

'We were picked up by our driver from the hotel for a departure at approximately 6:18 p.m.'

What amused me was stating a time like 6:18 was stated as approximate instead of referring to a time like 6:20 or 6:30. Perhaps Fripp keeps track of time in seconds for all of his activities. Whether intended or not, the statement was amusing, at least for me.
