Oiling the motor

Oiling the motor

2011-10-19 by Andy Thompson

Dear all
It's a bit late to bother Martin about this again, so maybe some of you can help. My M400 is blowing 2A fuses on its SMS - Martin tells me the motor probably needs oiling. I've done so in situ and replaced the fuse, but no improvement. I'm keen not to remove the motor, as I'm a crap mechanic and don't want the hassle of getting the drive belt back to its correct tension, unless absolutely necessary.
Any ideas?

Too much tension on the belt can do this. Oiling the motor also causes it to attract dust. Dust works its way into the bushings and actually increases friction. these things both cause increased amperage draw and can blow the fuses. Try loosening up the belt a bit. It should only have enough tension to turn the flywheel such that when you grab the revolving flywheel, the belt begins to slip on the motor pulley after only a bit of resistance.
Hope this helps.

Bigger fuse!
Just kidding, way too dangerous!
Heh heh :-) Martin jested that I 'put a nail across it'. How d'you know when a professional roadie's been at your amp? (Not actually a joke). The main fuse is wrapped in foil from a cigarette packet. Seen it done. "Quick fix, innit, mate?"
Perhaps too much tension from the belt, but if it didn’t do it before, and nothing changed, stumped.
Frank thinks the same, by the looks of it. Thanks for the help, chaps, will tackle it on the morrow.
