Frank, just got word that Butler Uniivsity would like to sample #911 for an electronic composotion class. You have to love it when your work is shared with others. I'm betting no one in the class has ever seen a Tron live.

I have always loved the fact that you so generously share your machine. I have always shield away from selling to people who just want to "own" a Mellotron. That's why I don't like to sell them on eBay. All of the folks I have sold machines to either are musicians or studio owners. I'm so glad that you and Patrick are my friends. I am very proud of him.

Does that mean I can’t buy one, if I had the money and just wanted to goof around with it?

Thank goodness I didn't have to try and buy one from you, Frank!!

The guy I bought mine off said he was glad to see it going to someone who really wanted one, and trust me, I really did.

I think wanting to own one is a good enough reason to have one, it would be sad if musicians and studio owners were the only people to get their hands on mellotrons.

Mark,
If you bring me yours, I'm happy to fix it up for you. I've done plenty of them for private owners. My preference for the ones I buy, restore and resell is to put them where they will be played live and/or recorded. You are a person who openly shares your Mellotron and your love for it. Had I known what you would do with a Mellotron I would have gladly sold you one. I rebuilt the "Mel" Mellotron twice. The 2nd time was a very extensive rebuild. Streetly restored it as well, before I ever touched it. All of the work done was for the same owner. After I repaired it in 2005 it was stuck in a garage for 5 years and then it came back for a frame up restoration. Now, I'm pretty sure its back in a garage or a storage bin. Sad! It's a great Mellotron and can be seen and heard on my You Tube "Astra" video.

Re: #911

2011-08-27 by mellotronmadness

Thanks again Frank,

I am serious about a rebuild and I would be very grateful for your expertise. I also know that I would have to have several months to dedicate myself to it pretty much exclusively, I would have to do it very slowly and patiently, patience is not one of my virtues. At present I have too many other things competing for my time

So for now I have settled for a tron that works and doesn't sound too bad.

I hope we both live long enough for me to retire and rebuild #1565.

Cheers

Mark

This reminds me of an old joke :

A Scottish woman goes into her local newspaper office. She says how much does it cost to place a funeral notice?

The manager says "50 pence per word. What would you like to say?"

She answers "McKay's dead."

The manager says "You have to use at least 5 words."

She thinks for a minute then says:

"Mckay's dead. Mellotron for sale."

To whom it may concern,
I am not sure which American culture you all are speaking of. While
don't exactly have a caste system like our British friends we have
cultural divides as wide as , say , the British and the French! Rude is
rude no matter where you come from- a lack of consideration and a sign
of ignorance. It is easy though to slip into bad habits and I stand
reminded.

Yours Truly,
Tom
