Hi All-

I'm a new member, and I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is
Dusty, and I'm from Kansas. I live very close to Lawrence, but in a
rural area out in the middle of nowhere.

I'm mostly a guitar player, with a fair collection, but I'm also a
keyboard enthusiast. I have a black Wurly, and several small and
strange analog keyboards, but no Mellotron/Chamberlin- yet. Someday in
the future I will get one though, the right one at the right price
will find me. That's how I've been with my most wanted guitars, and
it's always worked that way for me. (Well, for the ones that I've
found so far, that is.)

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and let people know who I am.

Thanks,
Dusty

Welcome Dusty

If you don’t mind shipping it in from Europe I think I know a great machine for sale ( fully restored ).

How much do you want to spend on it?

Hi Dusty

You are quite right if you want a mellotron badly
enough, one will find its way to you, although what
sort of state it will be in may be another story.

Welcome to the group

And I thought Scots could understand just about anything - heck if I can
understand much of what they say - playing music, on the other hand, is
another thing...
Jayhawking....hmmmm.....that's one of those war-between-the-states
things....something akin to righteous raping-and-pillaging (my GGG-father
was part of Jennison's Jayhawkers - and later a (repentant) Methodist
preacher.)
Btw - our set of colonials spells it 'pedophile' - in order to confuse
people as to whether we're merely walking across the street....

There's lots of help available from the good people

Mike, the jayhawk is the school mascot for Kansas University, which is
located in Lawrence, Ks. As to how one jayhawks? I'd think with the
lights off and an extra bit of netting - and mind the side rails.

Yes, it's true, I'm the father of Indiana. I haven't been there for a while. It makes me very homesick to even think about it. As a matter of fact, I'm having a real bad Indiana Jones. Oh, and Frank, do you really only fix up reasonably good Mellotrons? There's some naughty ones that need care, too!

Interesting and very funny! Loved it when the band left the stand! And the cheaply stained & finished plywood on the back was a hoot.
The "Meditation" recordings is fun, too. A very stark, honest recording. Obviously a Chamby.

Look up Michael Iceberg - the Disney World performer. You'll want his 70's stuff.
1960's song poem artist Rodd Keith is another one.

Re: [newmellotrongroup] Re: New Member

2010-07-21 by Chris Dale

Yes, Rodd Keith records were not really well distributed.
You can find his work on song poem CD compilations - though most of that music / lyrics is of dubious quality because of the nature of that industry.
About John Lennon - he never even laid eyes on a Chamberlin. He only ever had a Mellotron (and was interested in the Birotron).
The stuff you're looking for was done on his home machine and although it's interesting - it tends to wear out it's welcome rather quickly because it's completely improvised and full of starts and stops, never keeping a melody for too long. You'll have to search out Beatles bootleg music for it. It's definitely not something to play at parties unless you want to end them.
And lets not even discuss Yoko Ono's attempt at singing (apart from sounding like a banshee in heat)
You'd be better off tracking down the Wonderwall soundtrack by George Harrison. There's good use of the Dixieland music rhythms in Drilling A Home. For cheesy playing and fun, you really can't beat that.
You should also search out 448 Deathless Days by Steve Fisk. He uses Optigan (some occasional scatchy chamberlin sounds from an optical disc) There's only one or two tracks that have it, but it's a fun listen.
