Mellotron Infatuation

2011-08-22 by trolldelux@aol.com

RE: OK, now that we have you, fess up. What's your infatuation with Mellotrons?
This is a rhetorical question, right? Until the wonders of the Internet, I had to bore anybody who looked knowledgeable with questions about the excellent sound on a few select 60's songs (for that is my era). The songs were '200 light yrs from home", and most of the songs on "days of future passed' (except nights in white satin, which I am sick of); pr'haps a few others. This led to King Crimson, Genesis, and a few others until the dark ages of the late 70s closed over us.

Tom, this may surprise you but people still use them on recordings. Mellotrons are experiencing renewed popularity. Would you like to own a fully restored one? I can offer you an exceptional example.

Tom, this may surprise you but people still use them on recordings. Mellotrons are experiencing renewed popularity. Would you like to own a fully restored one? I can offer you an exceptional ex ample.

This is a rhetorical question, right? Until the wonders of the Internet, I had to bore anybody who looked knowledgeabl e with questions about the excellent sound on a few select 60's songs (for that is my era). The songs were '200 light yrs from home", and most of the songs on "days of future passed' (except nights in white satin, which I am sick of); pr'haps a few others. This led to King Crimson, Genesis, and a few others until the dark ages of the late 70s closed over us.

Im a total stranger who accidently bumped a hair trigger in LinkedIN. I invited ONE (1.0) person, and was rewarded with a message saying that invites were sent to 300+ people. I have no idea how to stop the *&^%$ thing either.
We are "connected" by emails from the newmellotrongroup, where I am a lowly lurker. Pls feel free to reject the link and send a nastygram to LinkedIN. I am looking forward to "who the f*** are you messages" for the next couple of months because of this

I like the grumpy Clay! My wife loathes the grumpy fritz.

How 'bout some bad prog bands? Come on! Let's vent! With just a few exceptions I thought Flash super-sucked. Spock's Beard should be sued for plagiarism. Yes' Tormato...Genesis' ABACAB (or anything after Duke really)..oh yes, And Then There Were Three should have had the subtitle "..Who Forgot How To Write". I think Starcastle's contract stipulated that "no chords in the compositions shall have any notes that convey a quality of minor or major. Either they shall be 'sus4' or 'add9,no third' . The Major 7 and Dominant 7 shall be reviewed on a per song/per chord basis and dissonance is strictly forbidden."

How many songs were about knights and fair maidens and unicorns and mythical battles?

....and you're wrong about Dave Grohl. He's humble, totally self-effacing and pretty fucking talented in my humble opinion. Okay, it's not JS Bach, but it ain't Vanilla Ice either. If you want to really rail on something I LOVE, check out Skrillex. He is the FUTURE! Most of you will hate it..I think.

Did you say "sick of nights in white satin" ? Ohhh fuck! You can say that again! I loved those guys 44 years ago. I listened to EBGDF from start to finish the other day. What a load of crap! Except the 1st track is good. The rest just sounds like shit to me now.

The best thing about Flash? The album with the gate-fold tits. The LP was shit, but I didn't care. I bought it for the tits.
