I just saw on facebook that Frank died 10 days ago. Was anyone aware of
this? I know many people on this list had very strong feelings about Frank,
both good and bad. He was my friend. I will miss him.

I did not know Frank "1", but I had plans to contact him one day to congratulate him on the wonderful mellotron book that he wrote.

Just a few months ago, didn't he meet up with another person on this list at the winter Namm Festival ?

This is very sad news...

My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people on this list who knew him.

Robert

It's sad day when the obsessive 'tron brotherhood loses one of its

Frank - I'm really surprised to hear this. Frank and I had been facebook friends for a number of years. He had a habit of making some rather nasty political attacks and I eventually unfriended him a few months back because of it, which is why I didn't hear anything. I'm certainly sad to hear of his passing. Do you have any details of what happened?

Frank was very generous with information regarding Mellotron, we sent many
e-mails back and forth and I learned alot of valuable things from him. His
book is an irreplacable resource. He had strong opinions but I can't hold
somebodies politics against them for god's sake. I am really sorry to hear
of his passing.

Frank, I just saw this thread, first thing this morning. What a miserable way to start the day. I never met Frank face to face, but we have corresponded many times off list. I will miss his presence here.

Couldn't agree more Bernie, lousy way to start a day.

I had no idea that he was ill. We usually meet at NAMM but this year I had to cancel our meeting due to my own medical issues. We had our differences politically, but Frank had a way of putting all that aside when meeting as colleagues and friends.

I wish there was something we can do as a group to show his family some support. I have no address, only his email. Any ideas?

This is horrible news. Although we sometimes had maddening political discussions, Frank was a great guy. We met and hung together at NAMM and had great times.

His book is also the seminal text on the instrument we all love. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Sad news. Another of our 'family' gone from our midst. Frank was definitely one of the 'torch passers' among us. He will be missed.

Very very sad news. I only knew him directly through emails. A caring and easygoing soul. His book was wonderful, and I think he was hoping to update it in some way. His Moneypit adventures show how proud he was to be part of the 'tron community. He will be greatly missed.

I'm completely floored right now.

My fiance and I got to spend dinner and the evening with him when Mike Pinder came to Hollywood for the premiere of Dianna Dillworth's and Murray Lenner's two films at the Egyptian. We bs'd all evening, had a great time. Met Pinder. Got photos of them shaking hands. Frank stayed afterwards to see me play a Mellotron for the first time in my life, Brian Kehew's purple M400 that he'd brought over for the shindig. He later described it as a look of "pure joy" on my face as I sat there and did my round of 'tron karaoke. We had a great time the three of us. He topped it off by giving me a copy of his book, he had several with him.

That's how I just found out he died. I spent the evening finishing out the last of his book, now that I've a bit of time. I talked at length about it with my fiance and my mother-in-law at their place. I was getting a little irritated that it seems like there was a time you could snatch up priceless Mellotrons for, oh, $200. I was saying I was going to go home and tell Frank by facebook I'd just finished his book, great stuff, think hard, are there any unwanted Mellotrons laying around California at all, no matter how bad of shape?

Instead I found... all of this. It doesn't seem to be a joke.

Damn, just a month ago he'd mentioned that he also likes that old John Wayne movie "In Harm's Way." No sign of trouble then.

..

I'm just floored. I was looking forward to visiting his place in El Cajon maybe next year if I had time and money. He will surely be missed.

Thank you for your reflections, Sean. The whole thing with Frank (and Jon) is very unsettling.

Frank directed me on how to make a CD out of my Celluloid 'Neptune' vinyl, to play in the car and Jon made a video of himself showing me how to play the 'tron solo on the Genesis tune 'Can Utility and the Coastliners.'

I met Frank at the Tron-to MKII tronfest in 2001. He used one of my trons to thread a new set of tapes in his M400 rack. Ken L. has pics of the event on his site.

Both Lads passed on way too early.
