RE: [newmellotrongroup] Re: Tony Clarke

2010-01-06 by John Wright

I read a short write up on Wiki. It had already been updated with news
of his death. It mentioned he had played bass in a skiffle band in the
late 50's and produced The Four Tops among others.

Sad news about Tony Clarke, he will be missed.
Aside from his work with the Moodies (group and solo), does anyone
know who else he produced?

Agreed - Sad News. Just have a listen on a nice, big,
crunch-down- your-hair pair of headphones in a relaxed dark room. The
London Records guys may have chosen the Moodies as the artists for their
stereo rock record, but they also picked Tony as the producer - he
really did have a good feel for the possibilities and creativity
available in stereo...RIP

That's sad.I used to dream of working with that guy in a
nice analog studio with a plate reverb. Thanks for the beautiful sounds
he left for us to study.

His work certainly played a large part in my turning
over to The Dark Side and finally starting to like some of that rock
music stuff. The Moodies would have likely just been another band whose
musical aspirations far exceeded their reach without him. Thanks for
the announcement, Martin, and Tony - thanks for all the wonderful work.
