Fwd: [Mellotronists] Another eBay Tron

2009-12-24 by fdoddy@aol.com

Samples are fine. They will react with amazing consistency. A mellotron forces you to think about what you are saying and plan accordingly. It allows you to arrange in different way, with limitations. Instead of just smelling like a tron (which they don't actually as trons have their own smell...old tape) it FEELS like a tron part or performance. Playing the thing is a tactile event. Real piano versus sampled piano. Modeled analog versus real analog. It depends on what you are going after. If God is in the details, as the Amish say, then a real tron is for you. I enjoy just playing the thing. Many times I will arrange parts with tron samples only to find that they evolve when I go to track with the real thing. A Memotron isn't perfect, it's consistent and that's not for me.

seriously i went to a recording studio in parsippany i think it was and this guy brought it with him, with the ease of a menu he could blend sad strings with flutes, cello, then change his mind and load vox humana instead. the thing was amazing, weighed 40 lb, size of a 1980's yamaha keyboard. Memotron is the name of the unit had control knobs just like the original, even had reverb which the other didnt. he told me he imported all the sounds from m-tron software so he had a bank of 100+ sounds ever made even had novatron or birotron forget which one it was.

forget that junk go digital get a memotron with all the tape banks they ever made on one machine. why bother being stuck with three and an unreliable machine you have to fix more than a Ford Pickup Truck.

Notice the second photo... no feet. It appears to be floating in air. The pictures look photo shopped to me.
