Oddly enough, I ended up selling the Blue Mellotron (Unicorns and all) to
one of the other bidders on the black one for substantially more than the
high bid on the black one. Of course it includes the rebuild, but the outside
of the cabinet will be left "as is" except for giving it a fine new set of
cheek blocks. It will be nice when done, yet funky. Tasteful... yet not.
Fresh... yet old. solid... yet with a giant hole in the side. Still blue...
yet not white.
And with the proper tone knob.
I have recently learned that this machine was in a recording studio in
England for years. A visitor to my myspace page told me that his dad had
recorded with it back in the 70s and it was painted as it is now. Small world.
