Re: [newmellotrongroup] Best mellotron playing ever?

2008-11-22 by fdoddy@aol.com

While not a fan of reverb, I think the recordings on Tales are some of the sweetest tron IMHO.? I've always liked his chording. His synth/organ soloing is like my soloing, abysmal.

Also a fan of Bank's tron work, again it's a combo of recording, chording, phrasing.

Early Crimson rates high as well.

....and who can forget about the studio version of "Freebird".? I will NOT let that one die.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any Wakeman stuff...

I know the thread has moved from the best mellotron player to the best sounding mellotron player...

I have to put in some votes for "And You and I", "Six Wives" and lots of "Tales..."

Not great technically, but then again what is (amazing what you can do with 2 fingers...)? Still, soothing to the ear...

Wooly always gets a vote...? as does Tony and "Selling England..."

Tangerine Dream my favorite electronic
band.

Been a listener since 74, the reason I
bought my Tron?so if you like the soundtrack from Sorcerer, I suggest the
earlier stuff like Phaedra, Rubicon (70s) and decade by decade
since.

This topic found me dragging out old King Krimson stuff...year, Epitaph

and Lizzard we real cool tronish...
But hey...Is Tangerine Dream
"socerer" mellotron, or was it synth?
The title track is real
  cool.
