hi folks... sometime in the recent past, somebody had pointed out a picture of America performing live, and a mellotron was in the shot, seemingly neglected. well, i got my wife the 'america live' from 1975 DVD from netflix. this is the performance that the shot was from. it's from an appearance on 'musicladen' which i think was a show on german television in the 70s. while she was watching it [and i was upstairs avoiding it] i heard the sound of mellotron flute. lo and behold, it was used on the track 'wind wave' on this peformance - both flute and strings in different sections of the song, including a pretty nice string part. i am not really a fan, but my wife [obviously] is, and has known them for many years, even introducing me to them on a number of occassions that she has managed to drag me out to one of their shows. i don't know if the studio recording of this track has mellotron or not. i suspect it was used to replace some real strings used in the original, buti will have to ask the wife to explore this. they are one of a handful of rock bands to have worked with george martin [really - they did!] so chances are they used real strings... so there it is: america DID use that m400 [and it sounded pretty good]. best, jeff
