Tape zip is where the pad is over adjusted because of poor contact with the head and the sound of a played tape returning to the start position. The narrow clearance means the tape kisses the head on the return journey. Cure....correct pad adjustment and maybe replace ancient tapes that have a strong memory of the tape housing configuration!
