Roberto, Maybe you are right ? There are many artists I like (i.e. Michael Mantler, Terje Rypdal, Robert Wyatt, Eberhard Weber, etc.) that release albums that are jazz oriented and I think the Mellotron would add a beautiful touch to. Some of these musicians actually used the Mellotron in some of their albums in years past. Although I like Robert Wyatt's cover of "Round Midnight" just as it is, if Mike Dickson (for example) was so inclined, I bet he could layer a Mellotron part to it and it would work beautifully. I recommend that you check out Art Tatum; I think he was big influence on Oscar Peterson. Also, check out Mal Waldron. With the resurgence of the Mellotron, hopefully more artists will try to utilize it effectively in some sort of jazz based music, even though it seems, it was not used that successfully in the past. Although when you are up at that level, it’s like you say Jesus, I say Mohammed. Room for more than one for sure. Not to say that the Monk is not sitting right up there with them. I will have to spend a little more time with his stuff. If I could be a jazz pianist, it would be Monk! Nobody, before or since, can solo like him. I would have loved to have heard him collaborate with say, Richard D James. fritz -----Original Message----- From: Robert <rmrmax@yahoo.com> To: newmellotrongroup <newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thu, Apr 12, 2012 3:16 pm Subject: [newmellotrongroup] Chords and Leads I like both.... My interest in progressive rock and other pop groups in the 70's, directly and indirectly influenced me to become interested in jazz music. Thelonious Monk is one of my favorites. Andy - Congratulations on your new album; I look forward to hearing it. I've just caught up on this thread... Taking into account all that has been said on this topic, guess I chose the wrong moment to record this then... More blocked, doom laden tron chords that you can shake a stick at... I'll get my coat. Andy K PS. On the off chance that anyone here actually likes a dose of miserable self -indulgent crap. The album should be ready to be shot at towards the end of the year. Ready..... Aim.......F...! Andy Kinch kinchmusic@aol.com
