Hi,
I'm new to the group..but a prog/tron fan...
I love GG a lot and I'd go as far as Free Hand as a good album. However I don't think - except for Acquiring the Taste - that the Tron was a Kerry Minnear favorite instrument. A long time ago I had the chance to interview Patrick Moraz and Tony Banks (I'm a journalist) and they complained a lot about the usual problems...delay..etc etc...besides Kerry's style has always been more 'funky' than melodic...except of course for all the exceptions on ATT and the coda on 3 friends...an amazing tune...that never ends...
best,
Roberto

Mark - thanks for your post. I liked all the Gentle Giant albums through Free Hand; however, I think their first 5 albums are their best.
Although I've searched, unfortunately, I can't find any live performances of the band in their early years when they utilized the Mellotron in some of their songs.
2 of the original members + the drummer from their third album have performed live in recent years under their new name "Three Friends".
Here are a few
videos...

PS There are at least 3 marks here now, am I Mark I or Mark II?
