Yes is ok and I cant stand the Moody Blues. For prog bands I think Genesis and King Crimson made better use of the mellotron and their music to me still resonates. I like extreme avant garde classical and that is as pretentious as it gets, so it's not a matter of being too high brow. Yes to me seems like a lot of cool parts thrown together to make a song, not songs with lots of cool parts. Moody Blues just plain suck "I'm just a singer in a crappy rock n' roll band" "clowns in white satin, boring to the end". On the same note, outside of a few tunes and maybe their first lp, ELP has not aged well at all. Crummy endless solos. Give me Eno, Robert Wyatt, Univers Zero and Henry Cow any day. It's personal choice, nothing more. They are well respected but I can't force myself to like them because they used a mellotron. So did Pavlov's Dog and Czar. Neither of them get played around here. In truth, I would probably hate most of the bands that Andy documents on his site. Mellotrons inspired a LOT of non musicians and lousy composers. That grandiose sound gave credence to a lot of weak musical ideas. Pomp over substance. I also loathe......Lynyrd Skynrd, U2, REM, and many many more. Music is such a devisive subject. Luckily I am always correct! Discuss.
