[OT] Iannis Xenakis

[OT] Iannis Xenakis

This news has been floating around the CSound list yesterday - it
came in right after it happened.

It seems that Iannis Xenakis, one of the pioneers of algorithmic
composition, died yesterday. FWIK, he was the first person to ever muck
with mathematical algorithms and recursive functions related to
music. Most of the details are here:

But his music lives on. And if anyone here knows where I can get his
electro-acoustic work on CD (already have Nonesuch LP), I'd be extremely
interested.

Truly bad news, I guess that leaves us with Pierre Boulez, and
Karlheinz Stockhausen, both treasures as well. When you think of the
nature of these peoples genius, the hurdles they overcame to realize
their vision, it's amazing. The process shaped their work in such
incredible ways.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know where I could find some
pictures of Sear Sound in NY.

Listening to Diamorphoses, enjoying a stiff one and getting no younger,
Paul
