Organic solderless

2000-12-26 by Joseph Casbarian

Hi group,

After many hours of soldering my Christmas modules, I've run out of
organic solder. Where's a good source for more? Is it a specific name
brand of organic solder, or is it all the same?

thanks,
Joseph Casbarian

That's it!

Kester #331, 0.020 diameter.

About $13/roll.

In the UK, Farnell sell Multicore solder with water washable flux. You
can't seem to get Kester over here. The Multicore stuff is very good and
available in 500g reels. Called Hydro-X.

However, I do find that I need a desk top extractor fan to get rid of
the flux smoke from all of these organic solders. I find it gets right
up the nose and makes your eyes sting a bit. I never had this problem
with Rosin based stuff. But a desk top fan/extractor is a good idea
anyway. Most big electronic suppliers sell carbon filtered units for not
much money. Maplin and CPC do a nice one for about 45 quid.
