new track - MOTM as monosynth

new track - MOTM as monosynth

2000-10-25 by David Bivins

Hey folks,

I've posted another track to mp3.com; this one is off-kilter techno or house
or whatever you think it is.

Title: Bigshot

Gear used: TR-909; FR777; Yamaha E1005 analog delay; MOTM-300, 320, 420, 440

The 777 is barely heard (it's the input into the delay--has kind of a
chime-y guitar sound) but it's the sequencer of the MOTM line.

The MOTM line is pretty obvious--it's the "in your face" 6 note synth lead
line. The sine output of the 300 is modulating the cutoff frequency of the
420 in HPF mode, the 320 is modulating the pulse width of the 320, and the
inputs into the 420 (then 440) are pulse and saw. Pretty simple, but in full
bandwidth (esp. live) it's a helluva patch. Totally raw and beautiful.

Maybe Joe P can guess what I'm doing with the E1005 to get those godawful
sounds ;)

Feedback is always appreciated!

Well I'm not Joe P but I know the sound of a Yamaha analog delay! You had lots of
fun overloading the input, setting the delay relatively short and playing with the
feedback. Wonderfully buzzing, and almost out of control! I didn't detect much use
of the modulation on the delay. Am I close?

Right on! E1005, set exactly as you described, with no modulation (a little
sneaks in later on, but negligible).

Maybe you can break down for me the modular patches I never wrote down... ;)

Best,

David.
