The excuses are gone

The excuses are gone

1999-06-07 by J. Larry Hendry

OK, This note is to any and all MOTM users who are ordering their modules
assembled:

Today, my wife completed her first MOTM module construction. Until a few
months ago, she had never constructed anything electronic or even touched a
soldering iron. Her only experience is helping me on a couple of PAiA
kits. All I did was teach her how to solder and watch her during the
entire process to answer questions and make sure she didn't make any easy
mistakes. I made her read the instructions instead of me telling her what
to do (with one exception). I can explain the attachment of the circuit
board to the front panel quicker than her reading and understanding Paul's
lengthy explaination.

She built the MOTM-800 ADSR (admittedly one of the easier ones). It worked
first time on power up. The only real problem with the whole process is
that now she wants to build more (taking away part of my fun). I have to
find a way to get her to PAY for the ones she builds. If I can get that to
happen, then I will be in MOTM heaven. ROTFLMAO.

Now, if my wife can do it, so can you.

I have six 96pt TT patchbays I'm still not finished with. Is she available
for contract soldering and wiring work? But seriously, somewhere in
between cutting hundreds of 3' lengths of wire, 1/2" pieces of heatshrink,
putting teflon on drain wires, and soldering the whole mess together
- I managed to put together my first MOTM-300. I still have one left
to go, plus I haven't calibrated the first. I'm anxiously awaiting
my summer vacation so I can get all the modules working together.
That will be fun.

Well, Paul set me straight and said some people who are fully qualified
are ordering because they don't have time to build them. Certainly,
although
he is building his own, busy guy's like Cary (who can do it all) just can't
get
a round to it. So, I hope I didn't offend anyone. None was intended. My
sincere apologies to anyone who took it that way.

In my defense, I will say that I did get one mail that said I gave him the
confidence to go for it. Paul, do I get the standard "5 free modules" for
each new customer I bring in? << that's humor in case someone is
getting excited right now.
