Yes, this is normal behavior. The slave is getting reset at a frequency
determined by the master. So if the slave is running faster than the master,
the master's frequency gets superimposed over the slave's frequency and you
get the basic pitch from the master, and the dominant sync overtones from
the slave.

If the slave is much slower than the master, it is getting reset so often
that the charging circuit for the capacitor can never get the output voltage
off of zero.

Larry, I went looking today for some small aluminum U channel for potential
module edges. No joy. I looked in hobby stores for the small scale metal you
use to build radio controlled airplanes. I found some brass that could be
made to work, but no aluminum. If we had a good web source for specialty
aluminum stock I bet we could find exactly what we need.

Boy it sure is quiet on the list!

Yes, I have checked some hobby places and came up short also. Let me know
if you do find anything. I'll do the same.
